Along Interstate 40 from Las Vegas, NV to Santa Fe, NM is an incredible drive. I did this 636-mile drive last year, and it was one to remember. It also marked my completion of my lower 48 states. There are several stops that you'll want to add along the way.
Upon leaving Las Vegas, you'll want to stop at the Hoover Dam. It's an incredible site of natural wonder with cement and natural landscape within the middle. You can be in two states at once, Arizona and Nevada. You'll want to not only check out the top of the Dam but also the visitor center and the Dam tour.
After visiting the Hoover Dam head west along Interstate 40 and grab your last-minute souvenirs and gas at Last Stop Travel Center. This quaint little stop is your last stop for gas, restroom, snacks, and other road trip needs until Flagstaff.
The journey between this area is incredible, and the views are amazing. There is a must dining stop in Flagstaff. Martanne's offers true Southwestern cuisine. It's probably one of the best Carne Asada dishes I have ever had. Their food is authentic and right on Route 66.
The final two stops before crossing into New Mexico are the Meteor Crater National Landmark and Petrified Forest National Park. The Crater is incredible and makes you realize how deep of the historical area this area is. Petrified National Park offers awesome views and various fossils.
A drive from Las Vegas to Santa Fe is awesome. The scenery will leave you amazed with the beauty that this area of the country has to offer. I did this drove in one day, which took about 12 hours, but I highly recommend breaking this drive to in two days. You can stay in Flagstaff as a pit stop. Additionally, the Grand Canyon is only two hours north of Flagstaff. It's an excellent area of America to explore and one I truly enjoy traveling to. #ridingwthkurt
