The other day, I gave a ride to a couple from the Destin, FL area from the airport to downtown Nashville. They had visited Nashville several times and were in town for the Luke Grimes concert at the Ryman, and we began talking about other areas of Nashville to explore. They inquired about Franklin and TN and asked if I would take them down there after they checked into their hotel. I gladly accepted, and after they checked in, we headed down to Franklin, TN.
Franklin, TN was founded in 1799 and has plenty of history, shopping, dining experiences, and various areas to explore. The main street offers a historical square with a monument and cannons recognizing the history of the town. I also have received plenty of recommendations experiencing the dining in Franklin by post-it note. Some of these great restaurants include Cullaccino Italian Restaurant and Bar which offers an amazing Italian dining experience, Puckett's for great BBQ and Southern Cuisine, 55 South amazing southern dining with Cajun food The Gumbo is a go to, Red Pony offers upscale dining with a southern twists and so many more .
There are plenty of historical stops, especially with American Civil War history. One area to check out that is located near Franklin is the Carnton Plantation that offered the area the Confederacy used as a staging area for attacks on The Union Army on November 30th, 1864. This would be one of the biggest losses for Confederate soldier lives. The Carnton home acted as a hospital for the Confederate injured. Today, the area can be visited, and a self guided tour takes you through the various stages of the battle. You can also visit the Carnton Plantation Home and visitor center.
Franklin is about 35 minutes south of Nashville, depending on traffic. For stays in downtown Franklin, there is The Harpeth Franklin Curio by Hilton located on 2nd Avenue North near the main Street in Franklin. Fantastic dining experiences, with history, and a unique area of middle Tennessee, you can't go wrong with a stop in Franklin, TN. #ridingwithkurt
