No, to long a go a couple from a small town between Shiloh and Savannah, TN told me about on their favorite restaurants located right oling the Tennessee River. I stopped in on my way from Tupelo to check out this historic restaurant. If you are looking for amazing fried catfish, then this is your place. The restaurant offers other great southern dishes, but catfish is what this place is known for. I had their two filet fried catfish with baked potato and salad, and everything about this dish was terrific. The catfish was light and flaky with the breading, not two heavy. Excellent service and rustic ambiance for this hidden Gem in Shiloh, TN.
After a wonderful lunch today, I headed to my final destination for the weekend at Shiloh National Military Park, which was only 10 minutes away from Hargy's. Shiloh National Military Park is a battlefield that occurred between the Union and Confederate armies during the American Civil War. The battle itself occurred from April 6th to April 7th in 1862. The park is considered one of the best preserved battlefields in America, which offers a wonderful self guided tour.
The battle itself began at dawn on April 6th by Confederate troops led by Albert Sidney Johnston, who took on the Union forces of Ulysses S. Grant. On April 6th, Confederate forces dominated the field and pushed back the forces of the Union army led by Grant. In a portion of the battle known as the thicket on April 6th, Confederate forces surrounded Union soldiers, and over 2,250 Union soldiers were forced to surrender to the Confederate Army. The battle on the 6th seemed inevitable as a Confederate victory that they would recontrol the Tennessee River and Railway between Corinth, MS to Charleston, SC. Unfortunately, doom would begin when General Johnston was shot and killed. His replacement by General Beauregard, who hoped to defeat General Grant before Union replacements arrived.
On April 7th, enforcement would arrive for Grant's Union army along with gunboats, and the Confederate armies under Beauregard would see the beginning of the end. The Confederate armies, by the second day, were out of ammunition and down to bayonets. Despite their actions of pushing back the Army of Grant, they were very unsuccessful.
The battle of Shiloh was a huge significant blow to Confederate forces as this allowed Union Forces to penetrate the Confederate interior. Additionally, it was at this point on of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, with over 23,000 lost. The significance of the battle would begin to the fall of the western conference of the Confederacy during the American Civil War.
For stays, look at La Quinta Inn and Suites in Tupelo. I found it convenient for my entire weekend. This area has so much to offer and should be added to your next Civil War Adventure. #ridingwithkurt
