A state to add for travel whether it be for outdoors, great downhill skiing, hiking, incredible live music, a awesome food season, plus a one town that offers great sports and evenfly fishing. Colorado is an amazing state that offers all the above. Two years ago I revisited Colorado and the Denver area after a 25 years absence. It's a place that reminded me for my love for western travel similar to that of Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, and Idaho.
Here are some incredible stops for those looking forward to visiting Colorado that I have experienced and some places that were recommended to me by post-it notes. When visiting Denver it's a vibrant town with plenty to do. If you're into sports then add a Colorado Avalanche game for hockey and a Colorado Rockies game as well as a Denver Broncos football game. Two years ago I experienced 2 of the 3 with a game at the Coors Field with the Rockies and Game 2 of the Edmonton Oilers vs Colorado Avalanche game of the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and a Rockies game. For breakfast stops in Denver head to Dozens in downtown Denver. Awesome menu with amazing dishes definitely worth the stop.
The Boulder area offers plenty of exploring including an incredible park that offers amazing hiking. The Flatirons is the backdrop to the town of Boulder. I highly recommend taking a couple hours to explore this interesting rock formations with the various hiking trails. Before heading to your hike at the Flatirons head to Snooze A.M. Eatery. The Snooze Breakfast Burrito was my go to but they offer other amazing dishes.
For live music in Colorado there is no other iconic venu than Red Rocks Amphitheater. Located in Morrison, Colorado this iconic venue offers some of the most amazing view along with incredible artists that visit this venue. Last year and two years ago I enjoyed incredible performances by Lord Huron. I'm sure I'll be back for another incredible performance next year for one of my favorite bands.
For notable places that I visited Colorado last year by post-it notes include Garden of the God's and Cave of the Winds both located near Colorado Springs. In Idaho Springs Colorado check out Beau Jo's Pizza. A place that I also found amazing two years ago in Idaho Springs that offers amazing BBQ is Smokin Yards BBQ. Check out the Brisket sandwich you won't be disappointed along with their BBQ sauce.
If you venture west from Idaho Springs a couple other stips include the Loveland Pass which is part of the Continental Divide. Amazing views of the Rocky Mountains along with two great ski mountains nearby which are A Basin and Keystone. Both I had experienced back when I did downhill skiing.
Finally, there is an amazing dining experience in Keystone, Colorado. There is a legendary steakhouse located near the ski mountain that you need to experience. The Snake River Steakhouse and Saloon is a dining experience located in the heart of Keystone that offers some amazing dishes. I had their Prime Rib which was absolutely amazing. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant in Late May and early June as this us a down time with tourism in Keystone.
Colorado is an amazing state. Scenery plus great food along with some incredible stops it's a state you'll want to add when planning your next travels out west. Finally, for stays in Denver I stayed at the Hyatt House located south of Denver and only 45 minutes from most of the locations mentioned above. Note for the Denver airport it's located about 45 minutes from the downtown Denver area east of the city. Add Colorado for your next western experience. #ridingwithkurt
