If you are looking to get out today and see the winter beauty in Nashville and take in some history, then there is a fort that offers both. Fort Negley is off of 8th Avenue, and it was built in 1862 after the Union Army seized the town of Nashville. The Fort was finally used for battle in 1864 during the Battle of Nashville.
Today, the Fort offers a self guided tour along with a visitor center. The Fort offers a walking trail that offers scenic views of the Fort and the skyline of downtown Nashville. You can walk to the top of the Fort to take in what the soldiers saw back in the 1860s as well as see how the Battle of Nashville played out. The Fort is free to the public and offers parking.
