Great Stops for History in Nashville, TN

Nashville's history is very interesting from its founding to where it is today.  The beginning began near the Cumberland River, which is today known as 4th Avenue with Fort Nashboro.  Over 200 years of history, from its beginnings to Nashville becoming the state capital and the state of Tennessee becoming a state from being a territory of the Colony of North Carolina.  Today, there are some great historical stops in the area of Nashville.

Fort Negley is located near the Wedgewood rea of Nashville.  This Fort was built by the Union Army during the American Civil War when they occupied the city in 1862. It was used in battle during the Battle of Nashville in 1864. Today, it has a visitor center and a self guided tour of the Fort along with some great views of downtown Nashville. 

Fort Nashborough is located on 1st Avenue.  This is not the actual spot, but it does provide great information on Nashville's early beginning.  Plus, it's a great view of the Cumberland River. 

Belle Meade Winery and Mansion located in Belle Meade. This historic mansion offers wine tastings and tours of this historic travelers rest. They have a visitor center,  gift shop, and restaurant. 

Hermitage Plantation located in Hermitage, TN, and is the home to Andrew Jackson.  The Plantation and area offers guided and self guided tours of America's 7th President.  Gift shop,  visitor center,  and restaurant are available.

Ryman Auditorium, located on 4th Avenue, is home to the original Grand Ole Opry.  The historic music venue has been around for over 130 years and began as a church, but over the course of time, it changed and became Nashville icon for music. Today,  you can see live shows there and tour the Ryman. 

There are plenty of great historical stops in Nashville, but these five are always enjoyed by those who visit. It's a mix of American history,  music history,  and even art history.  These are five that you can always enjoy regardless of the time of year. #ridingwithkurt
