The state of Tennessee originated as a North Carolina territory. The early settlements began in East Tennessee in an area known today as Cades Cove near Gatlinburg and slowly migrated west. Additionally, the area known as Nashville originated near the banks of Cumberland with Fort Nashboro. The settlements throughout East, Middle, and West Tennessee occurred from the late 1780s through the early 1800s. The city of Nashville was named the capital in 1843, with the Tennessee State Capitol being completed in 1850.
One thing you'll notice on top of the state capitol building is the Tennessee State Flag. The state flag was designed and adopted by the State of Tennessee in 1905. The state flag is red, white, and blue with three stars in the middle. Each star represents the three regions of the State with East, Middle, and West Tennessee.
Each region of the stars of Tennessee is a representation of the diversity of the state. East Tennessee is mountains with Appalachia and great cities that include Chattanooga and Knoxville. Middle Tennessee is the area that surrounds Nashville. While West Tennessee is the area west of the Tennessee River.
The Tennessee State Museum offers a great way to take in the history of the various regions of Tennessee. The museum is located in Germantown and is open seven days a week. Additionally, it's located next to The Nashville Farmers Market and Bicentennial Mall. Great restaurants nearby that have been recommended to me by post-it notes including Geist, Tailgate Brewery, Steam Boys, Jack Brown's, along with a great music venue that offers bowling and live music with Brooklyn Bowl.
Tennessee offers so much to see and do with history, food outdoors, live music, and unique cities throughout the state. The state offers four seasons and so many various beauty. Add your next travel destination to the state of Tennessee. #ridingwithkurt
