Hunting Island, SC

Reminders from our past remind us of the direction our life is going.  Prior to Nashville, I was living in Charleston, SC, and enjoying the food, beaches,  and everything the low country had to offer. I would make frequent day trips to various places and take in the history and culture that each city or area had to offer.

Today, a memory popped up of an area in South Carolina I enjoyed exploring.  The area is located near Hilton Head and Beaufort,  SC. Hunting Island State Park, located 20 miles east of Beaufort, offers both beach, hiking,  and history.  The park has several hiking trails and ways to see the low country wildlife and nature on the island.

One thing I truly enjoyed when I visited the island is the Hunting Island Lighthouse.  It was started prior to the American Civil War and completed in 1888. Today, you can visit the historic lighthous and even take the stairs to the top of the lighthouse. The view is incredible to the top, which requires you to take the 167 steps to the top. The view from the top of the lighthouse is incredible of both the Atlantic Ocean and the island itself.

This is definitely a place to add when visiting South Carolina. Additionally,  Beaufort and Hilton Head are great areas to check out with both having a good food scene and plenty of things to do.  Additionally,  Savannah,  GA is only 45 minutes away, and you're only about an hour and thirty minutes away from Charleston,  SC.  Always a fun experience when visiting South Carolina.  #ridingwithkurt
