Petroglyph National Monument Albuquerque, New Mexico

Back in March, I knocked off my 48th state. It was an amazing accomplishment in my life and one that I had dreamed. New Mexico was the state that ended up being number 48. One place that I tell my riders and individuals to check out is Petroglyph National Monument. This place was recommended to me by an individual who was from the area. I had never heard of it, but it was well worth the stop.

The Monument and Park is nestled in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and is worth the experience. The area features a 17-mile stretch of volcanic basalt escarpment that offers a deep history for the Natives that lived there. Among the rocks, you'll find engravings from the Pueblo tribes that lived there. It was their way of communication, and the engravings were amazing. You'll find various engravings from masks, people, warriors, animals, birds, and other awesome sketches on the rocks.

The area we explored was the Boca Negro Canyon. There was parking and restrooms available. The area is about 70 acres, and there are over 100 sketches that can be viewed. There is a visitor center about five minutes away along with a gift shop. The views from the top of Boca Negro are amazing with the mountains, town of Albuquerque, and the scenery it has to offer. I truly enjoyed this experience and highly recommend it to anyone who visits the Albuquerque area, as well as the individual who provided me with this post-it note. #ridingwithkurt #postit
