South Louisiana

Generally when you think of South Louisiana you automatically turn to New Orleans but this is a vast area with plenty to see and do from museums, to amazing, Cajun, Creole, and seafood dining experiences to a culture and history that is different than anywhere in America.

Louisiana was originally founded by the Cajuns formerly known as Acadians who migrated to the area from Canada/ Maine/ New Foundland via France to escape the wars of King Anne's and King William. To seek peace from persecution. They would find ways to live off the land and the bayous and some of the current dishes like Gumbo, Etoufe, and Jumbalaya date back to the early Cuinary History of South Louisiana.

One of the great stops in New Orleans is the World War 2 museum. Outside of the Smithsonian the museum offers some of the best exhibits from World War Two to anywhere in America. The museum gives a walk from the beginning of World War two to VE day to the final surrender of Japan to life after World War 2.

Head west from New Orleans and check out the classic Southern Louisiana restaurant Middendorf's Manchac. Located in Manchac, LA. It offers some of the best fried catfish you'll find in the South. You will definitely want to go with the thin catfish which us sliced thin, breaded and flash fried. Also, appetizers to try are Shrimp Remoulade, BBQ oysters, and Crawfish Cakes. Additional, entree items include the Seafood Platter, Stuffed Flounder, and Stuffed Crabs.

Another culinary experience head to Don's in Lafayette, LA. The restaurant offers classical southern Louisiana dishes plus some of there own specialties. For starters the Crawfish Bisque offers amazing flavor with a dark roux and amazing Crawfish flavor. For entrees the Blackened Redfish and Crawfish Etoufe are a definite go to.

South Louisiana offers no disappointment for an experience from those looking for the Food or History. It's an area that should be included in your future travel destinations.
