St. Louis is located along the Mississippi River and a city that offers a wide variety of places to see. The gateway to the west the first thing you will take in is the Arch that sits along the banks of the Mighty Mississippi River. This is a stop that you will want to add to your lists for the city. The Arch has two parts. The first is underneath lies the museum which covers the history of the Arch and the westward expansion. The second is the Arch itself. You can buy tickets ahead of time to take you to the top. The views from the top of the Arch on a clear day allow you to see as far as the eye can see.
The second stop you will want to make is the Zoo. The Zoo is free to the public and located in Forest Park. It offers an array of Animals from all over the world.
The third stop is Union Station. The historic Railway Station offers plenty of shops, restaurants and tourist stops. Also, you can stay at the historic hotel located there, which also offers an incredible dining experience at the Station Grille.
For a spectacular Italian dining experience head to the Italian hill. One of my all time favorites is Rigazz's. The old Italian eatery offers classic dishes but one of the best items on the menu is the Toasted Raviolis. If you are a sports fan attending a game at Busch Stadium will give you a feel of true baseball experience with the Cardinals. The Stadium offers great selection of concessions and there is not a bad view from any seat inside the stadium.
Another stop is Anheuser-Busch, visitors may choose from a number of tour experiences. You can visit the Clydesdales, learn to brew beer and take a behind-the-scenes VIP look at the brewing operations.
If you have kids not only will you want to visit the zoo but the City Museum as well. It's a big playground and your kids will enjoy hours of fun there.
The best time to visit is between April and October.
You will not be disappointed with a visit to the Gateway City to the West.
