The Parthenon Nashville, TN

When it comes to attractions and places to see one of the top places is the Parthenon. It was built in 1897 as part of the Tennessee Centennial Exposition. It is the only standing replica to the one that was in Athens, Greece.Today, it acts as an art gallery, story of Greek mythology, and representation of Nashville's past.

Inside, you'll find remnants on display of the Tennessee Centennial Exposition on display, as well as many featured pieces of art from various well known artist from the Cowan Collection of American Art. The most impressive part is on the second floor, which you'll find the Statue of Athena on Display.

The Statue of Athena is over forty feet in height and originally built in 1990 it was originally white but was gilded in 2002. In the palm of Athena, you'll see her holding Nike. Nike is the goddess of victory for all things, including art, music, war, and athletics. The shield next to Athena depicts the battle of gods versus giants on one side and, on the other side, the battle between Amazon's and Athenians. In the center of the shield, you'll find the head of Medusa, who was slain by Perseus. You'll also find the image on Athena's Brent plate.

The bronze doors on the inside adjacent to Athena are each 24 feet high, 6 feet in width, 1 foot thick, and 7.5 tons in weight.

On the outside of the Parthenon, you have the East and West Pediment. The East depicts the birth of Athena, while the West depicts the contest between Athena and her uncle Poseidun. Athena would be awarded the patron of Athens, and the citizens believed the city would flourish under her watch.

The Parthenon has been a part of the history of Nashville since it was finally completed in 1931. Its history is just as important as music, food, culture, sports, tourist attractions, and outdoors that this great city has to offer. Hundreds of tourists visit the amazing structure daily, which also has a gift shop. This is a definite stop when visiting Nashville. #ridingwithkurt
