I get asked alot about what is there is to do beyond Nashville. There is a whole lot and one area to travel off to is the Cumberland Plateau which is the border of Eastern Tennessee. You'll find an amazing views of water falls here and swimming holes here. The water falls are amazing to see year round. During the summer you can access the swimming holes that these water falls offer as an escape from the Tennessee heat.
Some amazing water falls along the Cumberland Plateau are Fall Creek Falls, Burgess Falls, and Cummins Falls. All three offer breathtaking views and are definitely worth seeing in Tennessee. Fall Creek Falls is 256 feet and one of the highest in the Eastern United States. Cummins Falls is 76 feet and has two drops with a large swimming hole at the bottom. Burgess Falls is 136 and enclosed by a large limestone gorge. Access to the base of Burgess Falls can be done by Kayak.
For a true cool off summer experience head to Rock Island. This area offers both amazing water falls and swimming holes along with natural slides. There are two acces areas on both sides and the hike down is somewhat extreme. Once you are down there you can enjoy the peace of the falls, natural pools, and serenity of the area.
All four spots are part of the Tennessee State Park system and offer a rich history of the area. Additionally you can find that during the fall that this area offers an amazing view of the foliage. Finally, it's a quick getaway from Nashville and will give your friends and family an additional appreciation of the state of Tennessee.
